What's new

Just finished with the initial work to have a web site with my art work.
Initially, I wanted to focus on art photography, however I feel it evolving rapidly toward other graphical works: graphical composition, drawings and paintings.

For example, here is photo composition from 6 years ago. Oh well..where will this take me?

As preparation for an upcoming website, I am reviewing my old photos, and sometimes I would make minor color corrections.
Here is an interesting one that match with my 'cloudy' interest. It seems that the clouds form a gigantic bird with spread wings and diving into the earth.

Stormy day

I remember that storm. We lived in Hamden, Connecticut. A very gray sky tinted on blue. It came all the sudden and likewise it went away. I was lucky to had the D70 on hand. A celestial rebellion.
Here we have a very simple compostion that is not very often seen: a convex curve going totally across the image. I prefer to think that this is a compostion in color. The few late Fall trees siluetes balance powerfull clouds.

Water reflections

Which of these two images I like the most? The color one has waves and reflections that appear to me; the B&W one reminds me of photos of my childhood.

Glass wall No. 3

Just a window full of color. An easy image to process. No much but a play of colors. Finally I have the HP photosmart pro B8850 working. For a while I felt that I bought the wrong printer. I am not still satisfied with the images. I think they could be better with a different paper.

Experimental flower

Yesterday I recieved my new printer: an HP B8850. So to test it, I took a difficult image, full of softer details. I am not please with the results. I need to investigate further the correct setup. I think that I just began the ugly search for monitor to printer mating.

The flower is full of gradients and odd shapes that are lost in the printed images.

Cloud No. 1

Last night I found this photo that I took in Santo Domingo. I love cloud formations. The dialogue among the clouds and the tree talks of joy and serenity.

Sunset No. 10

A nice mix of black, yellow and blue. A hidden sun balanced by a dark siluete. A rather noise image taken by hand. Further improvement on noise reduction is warrant. This photo is pleasing and it deserves it.

Natural gate No. 1

When I walk in the wood, I see these crevices at the base of the many trees. Doors and windows to the underground world. Sometimes they become the gate toward animal condominum complexes. Another way to see it would portrate 2 little animals facing each other in front of an entrance. They are the gate guardians.

A tough image because of lack of color spectrum. A basic composition of vertical lines projecting to the heights. Turning the photo around in any direction brings a complete diffeent feeling. What balance the photo? I believe is the rock on the right.

Sunset

Worked again in this sunset I took years ago. I love it even though the colors are not coming just the way I want in the sublimation printer. However that is going to change. Yesterday I ordered a HP photosmart Pro B8850. I am tired of bad color after I replaced the Epson R800. But I did not have a choice; after 4 years away from printing, the printhead was probably shut.
I like this reflection of the blue sky on the darkening evening sea.

Ghost

On sunny days while we walk on the streets, the natural world projects itself on the roof of the houses. This photo is a surprised found on one of these walks.

Technically it was very hard to work with because all the color needed to be balanced. I ended up working in both the RGB and the LAB space. I hope I did it a good service.

Cezanne 1

What is this? Just a reminder of Cezanne I found hidden behind a door in Winston Salem. It is amazing ahd the Nikon D90 can take this photo at Iso 1600 without flash. Not much noise. It seems that the evening photography and indoor space is open.

A nice composition of postal quality.

Glass wall

I feel that this image could be better: I do not like the bluish tone of the window frame and the dirty look of the bricks.

What about this version? I still find it troublesome. I like the details very much but composing for them would make me to deeply crop the image: It would become too small. Oh well....maybe I would return to it when I improve my photoshop skills.

Madness edge

A very complex image. Cubed color and a framed walking man. Too much to swallow in a single look.

Still what hold this image together but the step of his right foot. Remove the step and the magic is gone. A good example of the impact of a single detail on the photo structure.

Memory No. 2

When I walk on the fall field, I find the tall grasses calling me and reminding me of the short time that we are given to live under the sun.

La mala racha

Why this photo among the many? Why does it touch me? Maybe it is my current mood. A feeling of devastation, of ending brought by winter. A sad melody at the start of a new year.

Boardwalk

The fundamental duality: objectivity and subjectivity. Some photographers lean toward the objective side and become photo-technicians that use photography to capture representations of reality. Others want to use photography as a tool to explore meaning, shapes and colors.
When I open a photo, I feel an inner tension. Either I treat the photo to capture a moment of time or as a springboard to explore an inner reality.

This photo, part of a series on wall exploration, is clearly a subjective interpretation of colors and shapes.

Difficult way out

It is very telling that I began the 2010 year with this photo. I expect a very tough time ahead for all in America. How to face the challenges ahead? What a mess we are!
